Yahel - Israel Service Learning: Cost, Coverage & How to Fund It
Yahel - Israel Service Learning is a 4-month MASA-affiliated service learning program run by Yahel Israel — a social justice organization placing Jewish young adults inside underserved Israeli communities in Lod, Haifa, and Rishon LeZion. Named for the Hebrew word meaning "may it shine," Yahel partners with established community organizations in Israel's mixed Jewish-Arab cities to place participants in direct service roles: teaching English in Arab-majority schools, supporting at-risk youth centers, assisting women's shelters, working in community farms, and engaging with Ethiopian Israeli, immigrant, refugee, and Arab communities that rarely encounter young Jewish adults from the diaspora. Participants develop a deeply textured understanding of Israeli society that goes far beyond the typical Israel experience.

What Parents Say About Yahel - Israel Service Learning
“Yahel placed me at an Arab-majority elementary school in Lod where kids had never met a diaspora Jew. The questions they asked, the connections we made — nothing I'd seen in Jewish education prepared me for that. I came home understanding Israel from the inside in a way most Jewish visitors never get to. Israel Prepaid Bronze covered my entire four months.”
“Four months with Yahel in Haifa completely reshaped how I understand Zionism. Working in a women's shelter, a community garden, a youth center for at-risk teens — Israel is far more complex and beautiful than the version I'd grown up with. The weekly reflection sessions helped me process everything. My family had the Bronze Plan ready and it made the decision easy.”
